The importance of backing up

We all know we need a backup but often it gets left behind as there’s so much other work to do. Only someone who has had their computer crash, taking their work with them the day before a thesis is due, or their tax return is to be filed can really understand the value of a good backup.

Traditionally these were done to tape, and stored in fire proof safes or taken away to a separate storage facility. However as hard drives grew in size and the amount of data to be backed up increased with it, tape got harder and harder to use.
