Picking the right printerPicking the right printerThere are so many options out there for printers right now, it can be hard to decide which one to go for. Laser or inkjet? Just print or include copy and scan? Fax? Colour or black and white; wireless or wired? With all computer equipment you need to look at what your needs are. Laser or InkjetIf you only print occasionally and want an easy to use printer, then inkjet is the way to go. It provides excellent quality and is very inexpensive. Laser printers have come down a lot in price (we’ve seen them as low as $60) and are better if you print a lot. If you are looking at over 20 pages a week then you should be considering a laser printer; it works out cheaper per page to print when you do lots of printing. Laser printers tend to be much faster than inkjet at printing as well, with most these days being able to print 15 – 20 black and white pages per minute.
The importance of backing upWe all know we need a backup but often it gets left behind as there’s so much other work to do. Only someone who has had their computer crash, taking their work with them the day before a thesis is due, or their tax return is to be filed can really understand the value of a good backup.
