Then people forgot to change the tape or check if it ran successfully and bang, just when you needed it the files were gone and you had no backups.
In came online backups. These allowed you to back up to a remote location automatically online. There are advantages with this:
• You don’t have to change tapes, or move them offsite or find them again to restore a file.
• The data is held securely in another location, so theft, fire or natural disaster your data is safe.
• You don’t have to check if the backups ran. It’s all automated.
• You don’t need special hardware to restore your files if your server with the tape drive is stolen. In fact you can restore to any computer with an internet connection.
This “set it and forget it” approach saves time and money. And with backups happening as files change you’ll always be saved.
These backup quickly online, and only back up changes, saving time and space. So if you have a 16 page document backed up and you change one line it only backs up that one line. So when you go to restore you can always restore which version you want. The one from today with all the changes, or the one from yesterday? It’s your choice. And since it’s online you can restore it from anywhere with an internet connection.
You should also know that all your data is secure and encrypted, it’s only readable by you with your password, no one else can access it.
At TekBusters we can offer a number of options on online backups. From where you control all the equipment and back up from one office to another or to home over the internet to ones where another company will store your backups in their secure data centers. There are a number of
options available, so please give Gerry or Erik a call to discuss which one suits your needs and your budget.
