When you follow the instructions you’ll be told that you need to renew your subscription and it will allow you to purchase this all online. It won’t fix any virus for you, in fact this program may be the only virus on your computer. Common versions of this scam are called Windows AntiVirus 2009 and PC Defender 2008.
To clean these up, TekBusters recommends Malware Bytes, which you can download from http://www.malwarebytes.org. To help protect you in future, make sure that you do have a current anti-virus program installed. If you are a home user, AVG offer a free package and can be downloaded from
http://free.grisoft.com.
If you’re a business user, AVG also offer a business package and bothTrendMicro and ESET sell recommended anti-virus software. Where your computers are crucial to your business, we would also recommend a UTM (Unified Threat Management) device, such as Untangle which can help block these before they reach your computer. UTM will also allow you more control over your access to the internet as well as how the internet accesses you.
